Answer: A meta tag is part of the HTML code which makes up your web site. The more commonly known meta tag is the meta keywords tag. This tag basically listed keywords to help search engines find your web site, however, this tag has now been depreciated and most of the main search engines like Google will ignore them, our advise is to still include them but not to give them great importance.
Answer: A Domain Name is a name that represents you on the Internet, your name can be a company name or anything up to 63 characters long (providing it's still available).
Your web site will be located on a server (see what is hosting) and web servers are located by IP address which are long numbers, a Domain Name will basically represent a textual easy to remember version of the IP address, so instead of someone entering 126.96.36.199 in to the browser they could enter mywebsite.co.uk which is much easier to remember
With over 60,000 names being registered every day it's important you get your Domain Name registered as soon as possible.
Answer: Hosting is a place on the internet that your web site resides, usually this will be a web server that will host your web site making it available to the internet 24/7. Think of hosting as a plot of land for your web site.
Quality of hosting can vary and can have a big impact of your web sites performance and also the search engines, for example the UK version of Google will favor web sites that are hosted in the UK. All our servers are located in the UK we do not use servers outside the UK.
Answer: A web site can make a huge difference to any business no matter how big or small, whether it is just for a point of contact or to display a complete product selection, a web site can give your company a leading edge.
You will find your web site will enhance any existing advertising you do, for example if you advertise in a newspaper and include your web site address you will find many people will visit your web site before they will pick up the telephone. This makes it vital that your web site gives the right impression the first time, if however you do not have a web site and a competitor does, this gives them an advantage as they are more likely to contact them after visiting thier web site.
If your company has a wide selection of products or services, your web site can display most if not all of them and unlike expensive brochures things like details and prices can be changed with immediate effect.
With a web site your customer will always have a brochure at their finger tips with all the current prices and products which are available to them, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Answer: The number of pages is determined by how much information you want to put on your web site. A basic web site can have around 4/5 pages but if you just want a web presence you can have just a single page.
Try to think of a web page as roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper, although physically a web page can be a lot longer, almost never ending, however long pages are not very user friendly so it is best to keep them as close to A4 size as possible.
Answer: ISP is an abbreviation for Internet Server Provider. This is a company who physically connects you to the Internet. There are many ISP companies available, like Orange, AOL, BT, Virgin and many, many others.
